Youth Consent for Image Submission

The Images Into Action project invites youth to share photos about climate change and climate action. By submitting an image, you are giving permission for it to be used in research materials such as presentations, reports, or visual stories that explore how young people see and respond to climate issues. Sharing an image with the research team is completely voluntary and will be the only part of your involvement in the project. No personal identifying information will be shared publicly, and any images will be stored securely on password-protected devices and protect your confidentiality within the limits of the law. You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting the team at mark.altermann@royalroads.ca before any images are used in research reports, published, or shared. Remember:

  • Participation is voluntary and you can withdraw consent.
  • There are no anticipated risks, or harms associated with the research
  • Parent consent for those under 18 years of age will completed as part of the submission process.

  • Optional, include a short story about why the image matters to you (Please see the visual story page for examples)
  • Select one or more of the tags provided when adding a photo that you feel most connects with that image.
  • Please confirm you are the image creator and that no one is identifiable without their informed consent.

Submission tips

Chose images of moments, places, or actions that express your personal view or experience of climate change.

  • Remember, you may already have photos that illustrate what climate change impacts looks like to you.
  • Think local. Images from your own neighbourhood, or community often tell the most powerful stories.
  • Respect people, property, and the environment. Ask permission if your photo includes others, don’t enter on land without permission, to respect privacy, and don’t harm wildlife, plants, or habitats to get a photo.

Stay safe. Don’t take risks (like climbing, entering restricted areas, or unsafe weather conditions) to get your shot.
